Welcome 2014

It's new year's resolution time. I posted on fb that "Live healthier, get organized, brush teeth six times a day, get in touch with a friend every day, blog more. What else? Busy 2014", and no one commented on my weird (well, I thought someone would think it is weird..) brushing of teeth six times a day. Maybe it was too obvious? 2 x my own teeth, 2 x Valtteri's and 2 x Rekku's. Yes, also Rekku's teeth twice a day because I do not want to take him to the vet's for teeth cleaning all the time. So, time to really put some effort into his dental hygiene.

Every year I start January with a healthier lifestyle. More sports, healthy food, no junk, no alcohol etc. It does not always last, but this year I am being very organised about it with careful planning and recording, so hopefully it'll last. And I do have a prize in mind for myself if I can keep it up for three months .. a prize that has four legs ;)

So the year has started with organised days, healthy food, enough sports to make every movement hurt on a muscle or two, and loads of teeth brushing. It's pretty quiet because all activities are still on holidays - actually all stores were closed on 1st and 2nd too, they sure know how to maximise rest here - and many friends are either abroad, busy with family or sick :p. And it is raining. So, instead of having something amazing or even a little exciting to report, I will just try to remember a few highlights I could/should have blogged about earlier (in 2013):

Smarter than a fox: Rekku

We were on a walk with Rekku and Valtteri in the forest, and Rekku kind of kept running into the woods and back to us every now and then. We went from sort of a bush area into the forest along a path, as that's where I though Rekku had just gone. We kept walking along the path quite a bit until we started calling out for Rekku, since we had not seen him by then. I thought he was just on one of his adventures, so I did not worry. But we had to keep calling, both me and Valtteri (two of Valtteri's favourite words: Rekku tänne (come here) ! And actually the first two he has put together..). I squeaked Rekku's toy, whistled, called again. We kept walking at the same time but no sign of Rekku. No sound, nothing. So, after what must have been at least 20 minutes (and by this time I was getting a bit worried and Valtteri had gone quiet), I decided to go back to the road beside the forest (from which we had entered the forest area) and wait for Rekku there. Surely by now he would know which way is home..right?

As we got to the road and looked towards home, we saw Rekku sitting by the road, looking intensely into the forest. At the exact spot we had entered the forest together. I must admit, I nearly cried. How can he be smarter than me? From the way he was sitting, I could tell he had been sitting there for quite a while. When I called out for him, he looked over, then back to the forest and then to me, as if to say "Well how come you are coming from over there..?". Then he ran over, clearly very glad we had come back from our adventures :)

Ladies weekend getaway: Lyon

For my birthday me and two Finnish stay-at-home-mom friends left our little ones (whom are all the same age and also friends with each other) with our husbands at home and hopped on a train to Lyon. We left early Sat morning, hit the shops right away and simply enjoyed the unusual, uninterrupted conversations, lunches, dinners and sleep. And travelling light without a single diaper, toy or kiddie snack - that is until our bags got fuller from shopping ;)

The weather wasn't the best, but we saw the some sights; old town, market hall and murals. We walked and talked a lot, which, being uninterrupted, was really nice. Another one of these weekend s is needed soon again ;) All hubbies had a fab time with the kids - not a single phone call to us..

A few pics from the weekend:
