Agility - love it, but can leave it..

Last weekend we attended an agility competition close by. It was the same one we attended last year, and we have not been to any official competitions in between - so it got me thinking of our hobby..

It has not been the end of the world that we no longer have regular practice nor competitions to go to. This a little bit surprising to me, since I really like agility and it has been such a fun and beneficial hobby for me and Rekku. More than that actually, since I have done so much volunteer work related to agility. (And still continue to do.)

I miss practicing, learning more and doing agility regularly, no denying that, but not enough to go out of my way to make it happen. Because it is not like I could not go to practice and competitions, it's just that both would require time and money that would be away from something else. (and I would be lying if I did not admit that also the language barrier bothers me, and no, missing agility does not make me prioritize learning French either..) I feel like there's so much going on that when there is a free weekend or a day, it's not my first thought to try to find a competition to attend or schedule the day around attending practice. Going on a little hike is more tempting.. (and I can do that with both boys).

Selfish? Maybe. Rekku clearly enjoyed last weekend's competition, he was so attentive and excited and did his best on both runs. He enjoys practice too - also the backyard practice with two jumps made from sticks on Ikea plastic containers and one Ikea kids tunnel. He brings a toy to me every time we go to the garden, asking me to play. But, he also enjoys going on the hikes..

Although I praise the fact that there is an Oldie class in Switzerland and that organisers bother to organise classes for Oldies, its a shame not more attend. We were the only one in our class again. We really should have brought prizes for both agility and jumpers home but as you can see from the videos, a slight mistake in handling can get us disqualified..

In agility we did good apart from me trying too hard to ensure Rekku gets a good entry into the weaves, totally confusing him that way: View our agility video

In jumpers we were quite unprepared as the organisers changed the order of runs and we did not have time to go to the car in between our runs and walking the course. Rekku jumped a bit lazy (maybe I should have guided him better?!) and my mind was already one obstacle further in the end - which is why my shoulders told Rekku to jump although my mouth said tunnel.. Rekku won himself a bed. He no longer needs to sleep in mine! (Ha, like that's gonna happen..)
